Mera Peak Climbing Challenges and Preparation

Mera Peak journey makes the acclimatization crucial. Keep a few days as a backup day to avoid high altitude sickness. Best Month for Mera Peak Expedition

The best time of the year for Mera Peak Climbing is Spring (March, April, May, and June) and autumn (September, October, November, and December) are considered the best time for climbing and trekking in Nepal Himalayas. Climbing a peak below 5,800 m does not require a climbing permit. The Mera Peak Climbing Permit will be issued by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). Mera Peak Summit Day

The Mera Peak Summit involves glacier walking, some part fixed rope, using crampons and ice axes. 01Day

Wow, things get exciting! Either we catch a morning flight to Lukla or drive to Ramechap to catch a flight, depending on the season. It's about 5 hours drive and 15 minutes flight to Lukla where your porter awaits. After arriving at Lukla meet the porter, take a small break, and begin the journey to Chhuthang. Along the way pass the Mani wall, a Prayer flag, and a small sherpa village. The dense forest offers great sightings of birds and orchids. Arrival and transfer to Guest House.

02Day

Your journey kicks off many ups and downs through dense forest until Zatrawala top. Catch scenic view of Mera peak and many other peaks. Along the trails you may encounter with wild life including Red Panda. Keep descending to Tuli Kharka.

03Day

Another exciting day of the trek. Today you are going to trek the breathtaking Hinku Valley. The trail offer the stunning Hinku Valley and Mera Peak view. About noon time you will stop for lunch at Ongma. It is a seasonal teahouse, popular for dense forest, biodiversity, landscapes and hill top. After the lunch trek and cross Sanu Khola reach Kothe.

04Day

After fueling your body follow Hinku khola. After few hours walking stop at Gondishung for lunch and visit the ancient Lungsumba Gompa. Trekkers generally stop here for blessing. After exploring the Gompa and peacefull surroundings keep continue to thagnak. Today is more for rewarding than trekking.

05Day

Look! From today the altitude starts to kick in! You will be following the moraine of Ding Glacier until Ding Kharka. The serenity is a heavenly paradise. After a few hours of walking the path leads Rugges moraines to Shar glacier. Difficulty level: Challenging

06Day

Today is a day for getting ready for the Mera Peak climbing. Check your all gear, and make sure everyone is fit and fine for the next day. Grab the opportunity to rent or buy missing gear. Khare is the perfect place to acclimatize properly to reduce altitude sickness.

 

07Day

You are pushing higher up! Follow the stone-filled path in a steep incline over a Mera La pass and soon you reach Mera High Camp, where you will spend a night in a tented camp. Do not ask about the views, this is surely better than Gokyo Ri of Gokyo Valley Trek.

08Day

First stage -in the morning:

Wake up very early about 1 am. Have some warm soup and a little breakfast, and gear up with ice axes, crampons, and ropes. The earlier is better than the later due to the winds. Be on top at the most pleasurable moment.

Second Stage -Climbing to Mera Peak Summit

Wow!! The climbing begins gradually ascend across the glacier and moraine. The first part is easy but need be careful with crevasses. As you climb higher the route steepens a little without technical. The final section of your expedition is steep and challenging but rewarding.

Final Stage -Descent to Khare

After spending precious time on top of Mera Peak by taking photographs, congratulates each other and carefully descent to High Camp. At high camp hve some food and soup before descending to Khare. High Camp to Khare will takes about 4 hours.

Lukla fly to Kathmandu and transfer to Kathmandu.

Note: In the busy month like April and May in Spring, October and November in Autumn all the Lukla flight scheduling from Ramechhap. So, keep in mind that if your trips falls on these month then your will be flying from and back Ramechhap. Kathmandu to Ramechhap is 130 km and approximately Time taken 5 hours. Evening farewell dinner.

Essential Information

Guest Accommodation to Mera Peak Journey

Mera Peak is considered the highest Trekking peak in Nepal. Guesthouse accommodation is available until Khare. In some places, the guesthouse might be closest due to the off-season. The accommodation is clean and comfortable, but sometimes you may have a dormitory in high season. After Khare, there is no guesthouse, and you should have a camping accommodation. Khare is also called Mera Peak Base Camp.

Food in Mera Peak Trek Route

Although the Mera Peak Trek route is not as busy as Everest Base Camp Trails, it offers a variety of foods like Soup, Momo, Noodles, Chowmin, pasta, Dhido, Dhal Bhat, Sherpa Thukpa, Champa porridge, Muesli, Chapati and more. While Camping in High Camp, you will be served high camp food which is more proteinase food.

Internet and Tele Phone services

Nepal, there are two major Telecom service providers Ncel and NTC. Both Sims got coverage until Thagnak then after the coverage was on and off. All guest house offers internet services for a small cost. We will be using the Sattelite phone after Khare if needed.

Tipping is becoming a part of the culture in the tourism industry. Tipping is a must and the amount depends on the services they deliver as well as how nicely they look after.

Flight cancellation/delay

weather in the mountains is very notorious and can be changed frequently. Lukla is the gateway to Mera Peak Climbing. Due to poor visibility, the flight would be canceled. So, You are kindly suggested to keep a few backup days at the end of the trip to catch up your international flight.
