The journey begins from a scenic drive to Besishahar, following the classic Annapurna Circuit Trail until Koto. Whether enjoying the calm sound emanating from monasteries or spending a night at Nar Phedi Monastery before ascending to Kang La (5,306m) pass, Nar-Phu trek allows for cultural, natural and personal experience. The culture and customs of Nar Phu villagers are strongly tied with traditional Tibetan Buddhism. Local people follow daily religious customs like spinning prayer wheels, offering butter lamps, worshiping at monastery. Every homes has their private small pooja room as a monastery.They are decorated with prayer flags, mani walls, and chortens which shows their strong belief.

Nar Phu Valley is a part of the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA) nestled in the Annapurna massive and Manaslu mountains. Due to its historical and cultural significance, Nar Phu Valley falls in the Restricted Area. Only Government-registered trekking company can organizes Nar Phu Valley trek Permit. You need to be minimum of 2 trekkers to issue the restricted area permit. The permit costs are as below.

After having your breakfast at your hotel, the Journey begins through the Prithivi Highway till Dumre and follow the Marshyangdi river valley to Beshisahar. Take another sharing jeep to Dharapani and spend a night.

02Day

Begins your trek through pine and fir forest to Bagarchhap. Visit the white washed Monastery then keep continue to Timang. Timang offer the scenic view of Manaslu, peak 29, and Annapurna II. Feels like you are playing “hide N seek” with Himalaya. Arrival and check in Guest House.

03Day

After registering your Trek Permit at the police check post, follow the Nar Khola through narrow canyon, pine and fir forest, steam and suspension bridge to Dharmashala. It is nice to stop here for your lunch and keep continue to Meta. It is a long day walking but beautiful. It is recommended to have a pack lunch at Koto because there is not tea house in between.

04Day

Today trekking from Meta to Pho village is more interesting. Traverse up and down through the small forest, crossing few suspension bridges over a steam. Along the way stop at Kyang where you can visit the fort of Khampas settlement. Further walk and cross Phu khola and rocky trails reached Pho Village.

05Day

Today is an acclimatization day to avoid the altitude sickness. Visit the local village of Gurung, Tamang. You are in the hidden valley where you can immerse in the culture and customs. Visit Tshi Lakhang Monastery and enjoy the Himlung Himalayan views with several snow-capped mountain. Optional hike to Himlung Base Camp and back. From here people can travel to Upper Mustang as well.

06Day

Today’s trek is easier than previous day, it is about 6 hours walking, the trek back toward to Meta before turning to Monastery. Nar Phedi is not a village; it is a single monastery where you will be spending a night here. The room is clean and comfortable one. Beautiful Experience is spending a night at Monastery with Monks!!

Another easy and beautiful day of the trek. Follow the windy path towards Nar passing Chortens, into the ancient village. You will have a lunch and dinner at the same place.

08Day

Todays’s hikes begins very early morning because you have to go over a kang la pass to Ngwal. Kang La pass is not a supper challenging trek but due to the altitude nothing can be easier. When you reach on the top of the pass you will be treated with amazing views of Annapurna II, Tilicho Peak and Gangapurna Mountain are just in front. After filling your mind and heart descend to Ngawal.

09Day

A Trekking trails to Chame from Ngawal is a beautiful trek that offers stunning Annapurna II, III and Iv at the closest proximity. Follow downhill path to Ghyaru and upper pisang- the traditional villages. This section quiet scenic and takes about 3 hours. Met the Annapurna trekking trails at lower pisang and gradual descend to Chame. 

Optional: Ngawal is a beautiful village between Kangla top to Manang. Enjoy the stunning Annapurna II, III, IV mountain and diverse landscape with valleys. Follow the northeast trails to Manang to continue the world famous Annapurna Circuit.

    Our tailor made packjage do not includes a porter, you can make a decision based on your preferance. Nontheless, having a porter can make a huge different on your trek enjoyment and experience. If you are a beginners to trekking in high altitude, then we recommend taking a porter. Our Porter is strong and friendly, honest and certified for porter guide. 
  • A Private Jeep Transport to Dharapani-190 USD
    The local bus to Besishahar and a sharing small jeep to Dharapani will take longer than you expect. So making your travel comfortable, we do offer a private jeep to Dharapani for an additional cost.
  • Hiring a horse - 90 USD per day
    Hiring a horse/pony is possible in Nar phu Valley and Annapurna Circuit Trek. Each horse/per day cost about (90-100) USD including driver meals and wages.
     
  • Jomsom to Pokhara Flight Ticket-170 USD
    In Annapurna region, there are few options to end up the trek. If you like to conclude the trip at Jomsom and fly to Pokhara is also possible. There is a daily flight to Pokhara but depending on the weather conditions.

Essential Information

Best Time to Trek Nar Phu Valley

It is said that Nepal is for all seasons but March to early June (spring) and October to December (autumn) remain the best time to do Nar Phu Valley Trek. Spring season offers blossoms flowers, chirping birds, and the opportunity to find Yarsagumba (winter worm, summer grass). The autumn is best with moderate temperature, gentle breeze, and stunning views.

The Summer and Winter are not friendly season for trekking in Nepal. January to Mid March:- winter season temperature falls to freezing and the high pass remains closed. If the cold is not a matter then winter season offers great opportunity for cultural experience with locals as they as less busy and the visibility is stunning. The Summer season from July to Auguest is wet path, floods and liches while on lower altitude but the highland meadows are excellent for the wild flowers and highpass trek. So the choice is yours!

Food and Accommodation in Nar and Phu

Even though the Nar and Phu Valley trek is an off-the-beaten-path trek, they grow mainly potatoes, wheat, and barley. The local tea house serves a limited food options like momo, noodles, rice, and vegetables, but if you have a dietary restriction please inform us, so that we can alert at kitchen. The accommodation is still basic compared to Annapurna Circuit Trek. However, private and common rooms are available in every village. A room comprises of bed, mattress, bed sheet, and pillow. Remember the bathrooms are shared and have a squat-style toilet. Having a hot shower, and Wi-Fi will cost a small additional fee.

The price for 10 days Nar Phu Valley Trek costs between 800 USD to 1750 USD per person in twin sharing basic. Nar Phu Trek Difficult Level

Nar and Phu Valley are nestled in Annapurna I and Manaslu mountain in the Annapurna Conservation. It is a 10-12 days trek through rough terrain requiring a good fitness level—approximately 15 to 20 km daily walking in 6/7 hours. Nar Phu Valley begins at 2,600 m and reaches its maximum height of 5,240 m in Kang La Pass. So it is a moderately difficult trek.

Electricity, Internet Services, and Drinking Water

The electricity facility is available throughout the Nar Phu Valley Trekking. Charging your Camera, Mobile or any electric device will cost you additional small fees. In the Annapurna region, NTC and Ncel networks is available in most places but the Ncel coverage is very poor than NTC. Due to the isolated valley, the internet services drop-down very often so, you are suggested to download the necessary information beforehand. As for drinking water, water purification tabs or water filter is recommended for safe drinking water. Boiled water is available in a small cost.

Nar Phu Trek Suggestion

Even though you are physically fit, have proper trek gear, full information, still you need a government-registered local trek company and a local guide who can describe the local culture, customs, and vibrant landscape. Cardio endurance, strength endurance, and regular jogging are recommended to enhance your stamina.

A Restricted Area Permit (RAP) and an Annapurna Conservation Entry permit (ACAP) are required, which must be arranged through a local company.

The Narphu Valley Trek is remote and isolated within the Annapurna region. The food and accommodation along the Narphu Valley is basic but generally clean and comfortable.

As mentioned above, this is a challenging trek within the Annapurna region. You should be physically and mentally fit. At least 2 months before the journey begins, you should join running, cycling, and swimming.

If you get sick while on trek, first you need to inform your Guide/Leader. The response will depend on the nature of the sickness and the severity of the illness. If it is altitude sickness, the guide will coordinate with your travel company for the immediate evacuation if necessary. If minor illness, you may rest, take proper medication, and continue once you are better, or if not, descend slowly to a lower altitude.

Your deposit will be securely held and can be used for any upcoming trip. You also have the option to transfer the deposit as a voucher to a friend or family member.
