What to Expect on Lhasa to Kathmandu Overland Tour?

There are several things you can experience on a tour that includes Lhasa, Everest Base Camp, and a pilgrimage to Mansarovar with the holy Kailash Kora. The contrast between the cultural and historical city of Lhasa and the spiritual landscape around Kailash Mansarovar is striking—experience turquoise Yamdruk Lake, a stunning sunrise view from EBC, and the challenging Dolma La pass with 3 days Kailash Kora. Spend a night at Rongbuk Monastery, stay in mud houses, and stay at a deluxe hotel, all of which you can experience once in a lifetime.

North EBC and Rongbuck Monastery Experience

The Everest Base Camp on the Tibet side is known for its dramatic scenery and accessible viewpoints. While the walk to the base camp is relatively gentle, the high altitude and cold temperatures make it a rewarding challenge.

Rongbuk Monastery (5,154 m) lies at the foot of Everest’s north face, offering unparallel North face view of Everest, famous for remote Nyingmapa Buddhist sites and holds great spiritual importance. It also offers simple yet comfortable accommodation, allowing travelers to experience a night in one of the most extraordinary locations on Earth.

Spiritual Importance of Lake Mansarovar & Mount Kailash Kora

Lake Mansarovar is regarded as one of the holiest lakes in the world and is the source of four major rivers: Brahmaputra, Karnali, Sutlej, and Indus. Pilgrims believe that ritual bathing in the lake symbolizes purification and spiritual renewal.

The Mount Kailash Parikrama (Kora) is a 52 km circumambulation completed over three days trekking (Yama Dwar to Zuthulpuk). Crossing Dolma-La Pass represents spiritual transformation and letting go of life’s burdens. This sacred walk is considered a deeply meaningful journey of faith and self-discovery.

Making a pilgrimage tour to the holy Mansarovar lake, Rakshes Tal and sacred Mt. Kailash, Global Eco Trails will make permits and visa process with your six month valid passport.

The duration of the journey is depending on the starting and ending point of your tour. Starting and ending in Kathmandu through overland route Kerung-Saga-Mansarovar-Darchen-Kailash Kora-back to Kathmandu then it takes 10 days. Starting your trip from Lhasa and drive to Mansarovar and Kailash and back to lhasa or Kathmandu then it takes 13-15 days. So as for the trip duration please see the itinerary.

There are various factors that will affect the price of Mansarovar Kailash Yatra, like, group size, standard of the hotel, means of transportation, duration of the tour, travel route, travelling seasons and many more. However, Mansarovar Kailash tour package start from 2000 USD.

No, there is not age restriction. As far as you are physically and mentally fit for high altitude, then you are fit and fine to go to Kailash Tour.

Yes, the cost of the medical treatment should be borne by pilgrim. So to avoid the financial burden, a comprehensive travel insurance covering high altitude trekking and emergency rescue is mandatory.

If someone is sick on the trip, then immediate action is required to descent. If the person is sick due to altitude having the symptoms headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, short of breath and confusion, then decent immediately with the help of oxygen. There are basic hospitals in Saga, Purang and Kerung, Darchen where we can admit for necessary treatment.

No, the itinerary is for outer Kora involving 52 km also called common Kora. Mt. Kailash outer and inner kora or parikrama starts and ends at Darchen. The outer kora offer the amazing south and north face of Mt. Kailash. The inner parikrama is more challenging requiring some mountaineering skill. This inner kora involves about 34km/21mi walking. The inner Kora includes the exploration of Serlung Monastery, Saptarishi caves, Nandi Parbat, Asthapada, Atmalingam, and Kuber Kunda. The inner Kora is officially closed till date.

Being honest, Lhasa, EBC, Mansarovar, Kailash Parikrama trip is nothing easier due to its high-altitude terrain. Mostly you will be between 4000m to 5000 m. Due to thin air and low oxygen level people would have a chance to catch AMS but starting you journey from Lhasa will be much easier because of the acclimatization in Lhasa, EBC. That will make the Kailash Parokrama way easier and safer. The kora is not extreme uphill but has to cover long distance walking.

No, independent solo travel is not allowed for foreigners in Tibet. You must travel through a registered agency like Global Eco Trails and in a group tour.
