The low-altitude Helambu Circuit Trek begins from Sundarijal, about a 90-minute drive from Kathmandu. The journey starts at the Shivapuri National Park entrance. The trek route includes Chisapani-Gulbhanjyang-Kutumsang, Thadpati-Melamchi Gaon-Tarkeghyang, Kakani, and concludes at Timbu Khola, from where you return to Kathmandu. Daily walking distances vary by individual, but we aim to provide as accurate information as possible based on our expertise. Expect to walk about 12 to 15 km per day in 5 to 6 hours over rocky terrain. The Helambu trek offers tranquility through valleys, villages, and Himalayan views. If desired, the trek can be extended to include Gosaikunda Lake and Langtang Valley for an even more expansive experience.

Food and accommodation in Helambu Trekking

This tea house trek offers food and sleep in the Tea house. The lodge is clean and decent with well-furnished rooms that comprise a bed, pillow, bedsheet, mattress, and blanket. Mostly the rooms are based on twin sharing, but single rooms are also available. During the journey, electricity and internet connection are available throughout the trek. The food is fresh and hygienic served by Nepalese cuisine, Continental food, and Chinese food are available. Potatoes and fresh apples are the common food while trekking to Helambu. 01Day

The Helambu Trek starts from Sundarijal which is 15 km from Kathmandu and takes about 1.5 hours to drive. Walk to Chisapani is neither super easy nor a hard course, it is mostly uphill through Shivapuri National Park comprised of pine and Rhododendron forests. Prayer flags fluttering like colored wildflowers and the whispered mantras chirped by birds following through the breeze in the air attract your mind and body throughout the day.

02Day

The early bird catches the worm! It is recommended to wake early in the morning to witness sunkissed nature where you can see dewdrops on the ground becoming tiny prisms in the sunrise with snow turning into golden shade in the morning. After having a warm breakfast, trek to Kutumsang. Trek descends to Pati Bhanjyang, Chipling, then uphill to Thodong Top and gradually up to Gul Bhanjyang leading to Kutumsang. The path offers diverse landscapes with diverse flora and fauna.

03Day

Without any doubt, the major highlight or the jewel of Thadepati is the panoramic view of mountain vistas such as Langtang, Ganesh, Gaurishankar, Dorje Lakpa, and the humble Tamang community that welcomes people with their smiles there. Don’t miss the opportunity to interact and learn about the way of life of the Tamang people in this region.

Get there, start your uphill journey to Hill Danda, and gradually hike along the bamboo, oak, and rhododendron towards Mangengot (3,390 m) where you’ll take a break for your lunch. Get started and follow the easy path to Thadepati. Thadepati serves as a gateway to the sacred Gosainkunda Lake. For those who want to experience the majestic Gosaikundak trek.

04Day

Thadepati is a beautiful village on the top of the ride. Though Thadepati is a remote area, it offers a little bazaar that provides the necessities of the trekkers for the journey. Thadepati is always remembered for its scenery, rich culture, and a sense of adventure. Move to Bolgang Khola and travel uphill to Melamchigaon (2530m) where you can see the village with its Temple, Monastery, mani wall, and stupa. After lunch, trek to Tarkeghyang the biggest settlement of the Helambu region. Tarkeghyang is called “The Helambu” village settled by Helomo People.

05Day

Today is the last day of the trek feeling of nostalgia. Leaving the charming village of Helambu, the trail descends through paddy fields with Sunkoshi as your constant companion. Walking through the farming landscapes, and forest of rich flora and fauna, descend to Timbu Khola through Kakani where the bus awaits to Kathmandu valley. As the cityscape comes closer, the valley widens and your memory of the trek leaves you nostalgic and makes you think about your wonderful time in Nepal.
