The Gokyo Lakes Trek offers a flawless fusion of majestic mountains and shimmering emerald lakes in Khumbu Region of Nepal

Gokyo Lake nestled at an elevation of 4700m within Sagarmatha National Park, the Gokyo Valley Trek emerges as a captivating alternative to the traditional Everest Base Camp expedition. Although it veers off the usual route, Gokyo Valley Trek kindly grants trekkers amazing views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu and memorable experiences. Unlike the buzzing trails of EBC, the journey to Gokyo Lakes offers a silent experience while immersing adventurers in local culture. Along the way, one can ace at the icy rivers, rocky glacier remnants, snow-dusted peaks (Gokyo Ri), and the mesmerizing turquoise appeal of the Gokyo Lakes.

The Gokyo Valley trek comprises of six freshwater lakes, located at an altitude of 4700 to 5000m. Gokyo Valley falls between Chhukung Valley and Merlung Valley. The lakes are the world’s highest freshwater lake system and have been designated as a Ramsar site (wetlands of international importance) and are sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists.

Lonely Planet states, “For our money, the Gokyo Valley is the most spectacular in the Khumbu” as evidence of the beauty and importance of the Gokyo Valley Trek.

Best Time to Gokyo Valley Trekking

"The optimal seasons for undertaking the Gokyo Valley Trek are Spring (March to May) and Autumn (mid-September to December). These periods offer stable weather, clear skies, and moderate temperatures, making them the peak seasons for the Gokyo Valley Trek.

Winter (late December to February) and Summer (June to August) are less favorable for hiking in the Gokyo Valley. Winter brings very cold temperatures and a high chance of snowfall, while summer, or the monsoon season, is characterized by poor visibility and heavy rainfall, making the trails muddy and less enjoyable.
